Juno Calypso captures herself in uncanny staged scenes charged with suspense. Frequently assuming the role of her alter ego Joyce, she poses in spaces like honeymoon hotels or mid-century-style suburban homes that suggest bygone eras. Calypso developed this persona while studying photography at the London College of Communication; a year after graduating in 2012, her eerie, sensual self-portraits won the visitor vote at the prestigious Catlin Art Prize.
Calypso has quickly established herself with probing images that examine the performance of femininity. She won two of the highest honors for contemporary photography in 2016: the Foam Talent Call and the British Journal of Photography Series Award. Calypso also produces editorial work, photographing celebrities like Billie Eilish and Naomi Campbell for publications and fashion brands.
